Glossary

We know that it can be difficult to understand certain words and concepts that have to do with unemployment benefits. Here we explain words that you may come across when you are in contact with us.

Aktivitetsstöd

"Aktivitetsstöd" is the compensation you receive from Försäkringskassan when you participate in a labor market program.

Anmäla

"Anmälan" is what you do when you sign up as a job seeker with the Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen). On the Employment Service’s website External link, opens in new window., you can use the "Skriv in dig" service to sign up as a job seeker.

Ansökan om ersättning

The application for compensation is a form with questions that you need to fill out and submit to us when you are unemployed and want to apply for unemployment benefits. You can find it on our E-service Mina sidor, where you log in with your Bank ID.

Arbetsförmedlingen

You must register as a job seeker with Arbetsförmedlingen (the Employment Service) on your first day of unemployment. Arbetsförmedlingenis a government agency that helps you search for work and ensures that you meet the requirements to be counted as a job seeker.

Arbetsgivarintyg

An "arbetsgivarintyg" (employer certificate) shows how you have worked and what salary you received during a certain period. Your employer fills out the certificate, which can be done digitally on arbetsgivarintyg.nu External link, opens in new window. or on paper. You are responsible for submitting it to us.

Arbetslös tid

When you work, you are entitled to compensation for your "unemployed time". Your unemployed time is the difference between the hours you worked or had another obstacle and the hours you worked on average before becoming unemployed.

Arbetsmarknadspolitiskt program

Arbetsförmedlingen (the Employment Service) may decide if you should participate in a labor market program to help you find a job.

Arbetsmöjligheter

The total number of hours you can and want to work per week.

Arbetsvillkor

"Arbetsvillkor", a work requirement, is the number of hours and months you must have worked to be eligible for unemployment benefits. More information in Swedish here: Har du rätt till a-kassa?

A-skatt

A-tax is the income tax you pay when you are employed and do not have your own business.

Avanmälan

"Avanmälan" (deregistration) is a notification we receive from Arbetsförmedlingen (the Employment Service) when you are no longer registered as a job seeker with them.

Avgångsvederlag

"Avgångsvederlag" (severance pay) is an agreement with your employer regarding a sum of money you receive due to leaving a job. Severance pay is considered salary, and you are not entitled to unemployment benefits simultaneously.

Deltidsregeln

You can only combine work with unemployment benefits for a maximum of 60 weeks. After that, you can only receive benefits for weeks when you are fully unemployed. Read more information in Swedish: Arbeta och a-kassa

Ersättningsnivå

Your compensation changes during the compensation period. This is because there are different compensation levels depending on how many days you have used in your period. More information in Swedish here: Hur mycket får du i a-kassa?

Ersättningsperiod

If you are eligible for unemployment benefits, you will receive a compensation period of 300 days. When the 300 days are over, the period can be extended by 150 days if you have children under 18 years old.

FA-skatt

FA-tax is the income tax you usually pay if you are both self-employed and employed.

Frånkännande

"Frånkännande" (disqualification) is a decision where you lose a certain number of days from your compensation period if you deliberately, through negligence or gross carelessness, caused yourself to receive money that you were not entitled to.

F-skatt

F-tax is the income tax you pay if you are self-employed.

Grundersättning

Compensation that you can receive if you are eligible for unemployment benefits but have not been a member for at least 12 months. Read more here: Hur mycket får du i a-kassa?

Genomsnittlig arbetstid

Your average working time is the average number of hours you worked per week before becoming unemployed. The average is always calculated based on all the work you had during 12 months. If you did not work all 12 months, your average working time is reduced. In the decision letter you received from us, you can see how we calculated it.

Inkomstbaserad ersättning

Compensation based on the average income you had over 12 months. Read more here: Hur mycket får du i a-kassa?

Karensdagar

"Karensdagar" (waiting days) are days for which you are not paid. Each compensation period starts with 2 waiting days, and only after these days will the days be deducted from your compensation period.

Medlemsvillkor

You meet the "medlemsvillkor" (membership requirement) when you have been a member of an unemployment insurance fund for at least 12 consecutive months.

Mina sidor

Mina sidor (My Pages) is our E-service where you can apply for compensation, submit certificates, report time, and send messages to a case officer. You log in via our website: Mina sidor External link.

Omprövning

If you are not satisfied with a decision, you can ask us to review the case again to see if there was an error. This is called "omprövning" (reconsideration). Use the "Complain/Ask" function on Mina sidor if you want to request reconsideration of your decision.

Påanmälan

"Påanmälan" is the signal we receive from Arbetsförmedlingen (the Employment Service) when you register as a job seeker with them.

Tidrapport

To receive unemployment benefits, you need to submit your time reports through our E-service Mina sidor. On the time report, you confirm what you have done each week, for example, if you worked, were sick, or took a vacation. Read more here: Så fyller du i tidrapporten

Timlista

A "timlista" (hourly list) is a certificate from your employer showing how you worked day by day during a certain period.

Återkrav

If you have received too much compensation from us, you may need to pay it back. This is called "återkrav" (refund).

Överhoppningsbar tid

"Överhoppningsbar tid" (excludable time) is time that we cannot count when calculating how much money you are entitled to per day. This may be due to receiving sickness or parental benefits, being incarcerated, or being a full-time student.

Överklagan

If you have already had the case reconsidered and are still not satisfied, you may in some cases have the right to appeal the decision. You appeal directly to the court. You can read about how to do this in your reconsideration decision.
