Guide: How do I apply for unemployment benefits?

Register with the Arbetsförmedlingen
On the first day of your unemployment you need to register with Arbetsförmedlingen External link.(the Public Employment Service). In order to apply for unemployment benefits, you need to be a member of a-kassan.
Apply for benefits in Mina sidor
Log in to the e-service Mina sidor (My Pages) External link. and fill in the application for benefits (Ansökan om ersättning). After submitting your application, you will see a “to-do” list showing if you need to provide additional information.
Submit everything on your "to-do” list
In Mina sidor, your “to-do” list shows which documents you need to send in. The list is based on the information you provided in your application.
Submit your monthly application
In the monthly application, you need to report if you had any income from work and if you had any obstacles to working, for example if you were sick, on parental leave, or away travelling.

We process your application
Once we have received all your information, we can process your application. A decision will be sent to you via Mina sidor.
What happens to your application?
After you have submitted your application, we will review it. How long it takes depends on our current processing times and the specifics of your case. Keep an eye on your “to-do” list, if we need more information from you, it will be added there.
Remember: Continue submitting your monthly application every month, even if you haven’t yet received a decision.
When we have made a decision, you will receive a decision letter via Mina sidor.

Register your bank account with Swedbank
If you are entitled to benefits, the payment will be deposited into the account you have registered with Swedbank’s account register. If you have not registered an account, you will instead receive a payment slip.
